Following on from a successful NZARE symposium, Professor Robert Amor presented a poster of our Pilot Study findings at the annual Image and Vision Computing New Zealand conference in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington. The poster described how the impact of our Virtual Reality (VR) scenario, Taku tirohanga ki te aorangi – My view of the world, was measured using physiological indicators such as heart rate, heart rate variability, and electrodermal activity, in addition to self-report measures of empathy. Although we found no statistically significant differences between the pre- and post-VR viewing responses, the poster noted some potential pathways for future research. We would like to acknowledge the work of Daniel Eir, one of our summer scholars, who contributed to the data collection and analysis of the Pilot Study earlier this year.
